Farmhouse Love

There are days when I think it'd be absolutely lovely to live in a farmhouse. You too? If you love the farmhouse look, like I do, but don't live in a farmhouse (or anywhere near the country), there are some ways you can add some farmhouse to your home.

1. Open Shelving

I love the look of open shelving in the kitchen. While open shelving can definitely have a modern look, if you do it right, it can really add a nice rustic feel to your kitchen. I love seeing open shelving with wooden corbels.

2. Shiplap or Plank Walls

This is a feature I've admired for some time now. See this post. I'm also a big Fixer Upper fan (who isn't?) and I always love to see how Joanna incorporates shiplap into the homes they renovate. It's something I'd definitely be game to try someday in our home.

3. Lighting

Never underestimate the power of a great light fixture. Light fixtures (and lamps, too!) can change the whole feel of a space. If you're looking to bring a bit of farmhouse to your home this way, look for fixtures like lanterns, metal barn pendants (they're a thing), and chandelier type fixtures that give off the farmhouse vibe, just to name a few. You'll know it when you see it.

4. A Farmhouse Sink

This is a for sure way to add a bit of farmhouse to your home. Your kitchen doesn't have to look like it came straight from the farm to have a farmhouse sink incorporated. A farmhouse sink can look really great in any kitchen.

5. Accessories

Accessories, big or small, can be another great way to add a bit of farmhouse to your home. When choosing items look for natural, rustic, and/or vintage-y features. Think wooden bowls, natural fabrics (for rugs, pillows or curtains), jars, etc. You get the idea.

6. Furniture

You can achieve a bit of the farmhouse look through your furniture. Again, not everything needs to be the same style. For instance, I love the look of a farmhouse table matched with a more modern metal chair like pictured above. The mix of different materials and styles make for a much more interesting space.

7. Sliding Barn Doors

This is another look that I love. Adding the feature of a sliding barn door can really make a space unique. I especially love the look (and idea) of this one over at The Handmade Home.

Your whole house doesn't have to be adorned with farmhouse features, but a touch or two, here and there, can be quite nice. What do you say? Are you a fan of bringing a bit of the farmhouse into your home?
