Enjoying Cold Brew Coffee

In the summer I'm a big fan of iced coffee. I do still enjoy hot coffee, but many days I'd rather sip on something cold. You too?

However, when you make iced coffee from hot coffee you 1) get water downed coffee because the ice cubes keep melting and you have to keep adding more for it to get cold enough, or 2) have to make the coffee and then let it sit for a bit so the ice cubes don't melt. It's such a dilemma ;)

Enter, cold brew.

Have you tried the cold brew at Starbucks??? It's so gooooood! And, some friends and I were talking a few weeks ago about how easy it is to make your own at home. It was the boost I needed to make a batch and try out.

Making a batch of cold brew means no watered down coffee & it's ready to go when you need it. Here's how I made a batch of our own so we could just grab it from the fridge whenever we wanted some.

Cold Brew Coffee

  • 1 Gallon of water
  • 1/2 pound (approx. 3 Cups) of ground coffee - (We buy a large bag of coffee beans from Costco, but I measured out a 1/2 pound bag of ground coffee the first time I made this, and it equals out to approximately 3 cups of ground coffee. For those of you that buy in bulk, you're welcome).
To make:
  1. Measure out a gallon of cold water and place it in a container or large pot.
  2. Add the coffee grounds and stir it up!
  3. Cover and let sit on the counter overnight or approx. 8hrs (the longer it sits the stronger it'll be).
  4. Once it has sit, line a strainer with cheese cloth, and strain into a pitcher/container.
  5. Store in the fridge and pull out whenever you're needing a pick-me-up! Of course, if you take cream or sugar in your coffee mix it up & add some ice! (If you find it a bit strong all you have to do is add some cold water and you'll be good to go!).

It's so easy to make, I don't know why I haven't made it before now! We will definitely be enjoying cold brew the rest of the summer, and maybe even beyond.
